Sermon -by Ps George
The primary purpose of man is to display Christ.
What is it to “display Christ”?
In 1Cor 11:1 Paul says, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”
He also says in Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Ministries of The man:
- Ministry of the Priest
In the beginning, God created mankind to have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. (Genesis 1:26) This dominion was given to both man and woman.
But to the man, He specifically says in
1Timothy 2:8, “ I desire then that in every place the ‘men’ should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling”, giving man the responsibility of interceding in prayer for his family.
- Ministry of the prophet.
Psalm 1:1-3 reads, “Blessed is the ‘man’ who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
- Man as the Head, being gentle to his wife who submits
1 Cor 11:3 says, “But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, band the head of Christ is God.”
God has given man the office of Authority for the functioning of a healthy society.
In Eph 5:22-23, its written, “ Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”
In Col 3:19, we read, “Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them”. Likewise, in 1Peter 3:7, its mentioned, “Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”
Jesus asks all the heavily laden to come to him for rest. (Matthew 11:28) Similarly, imitating Him, when the husband gives his rest to his wife, she can experience the love of Christ, channelised through him.
The woman who was to be struck by the stone because of the act of adultery, got protection and forgiveness by Jesus (in John 8). Similarly, the husband ought to protect his wife and support him, in order to represent Christ, and for his wife to experience the love of God.
